The Cover Up

What's It Wednesday #121
This week I made a find that left me in a bit of a dilemma. I'd been wanting a small bench for my vanity. I could just see it all covered in white ruffles! (sigh)

Just one problem, this is what I found. A sweet little bench with an embroidered top that had seen better days.

A lid that lifts for storage,

And legs that were less than sexy. I could always paint it and recover the seat, but that was not the vision. Oh, and did I mention I can't sew a bit!

Never one to let a little thing like that crush my dreams, I found this sweet little communion dress at my local Goodwill...

See all those gorgeous ruffles? You see where I'm going with this?

I cut off the bodice and velcroed the waistband together. It makes the perfect no sew cover up!

So if you are in need of some soft, romantic ruffles, layered with crinoline for extra poof, look no further than your GW or thrift store.

That one time fancy dress can be used to cover a round inexpensive side table, add a pretty ruffle drop to a daybed, a curtain topper, or...

a bench cozy. The perfect cover up!
Hugs,
Patti

Kitchen Blues

What's It Wednesday #120

Blue and white porcelain in the kitchen is timeless and classic.

Melamine plates from Pier One are perfect when you have little ones who tear through the house. One of these falls off the wall...no worries.

You just can't go wrong, no matter what you pair them up with. I decided to add an African piece from Ghana next to this Italian vase.

Each decor scape highlights a juxtaposition of diverse cultures. Asian, Italian and Irish porcelain next to wooden and metal African sculptures and artifacts.

The Waterford bread plate over the stove is my absolutely favorite piece. I really feel that diversity in decorating a kitchen, or any other room for that matter, really keeps you from getting the kitchen blues.

What cultural elements do you have in your home designs?

Tackling Door Décor‎

What's It Wednesday #119
After seeing so many great spring wreaths I wanted to make one of my own, something interesting and unique. I knew the colors and type of flowers that I wanted, but what for a base?

Would this have caught your eye? I found this lovely old wicker tackle box at my local Salvation Army Store. A little worse for wear, but for a mere $3.00, I felt I could take a chance. It had a leather hook, just perfect for hanging too.

After a little white spray paint, and the addition of some pretty spring flowers and ribbons, it has been transformed!

I love the way it turned out. Now that I've tackled that problem, I'm ready for the next project!
Hugs,
Patti
