Up in Smoke Again

What's It Wednesday #135

Every once in a while, blog life requires a repost. In this case a partial repost from one of my favorite fall posts.
SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and may complicate pregnancy. Ok now that that is out of the way, let's look at some amazing collectables that came out of the culture of smoking.

Part of this smoking culture from around the world was the creation of fashionable accessories which are now highly sought after.

After Patti introduced me to the blog world, I was a blog voyeur for quite awhile. I ran across a blog where gorgeous cigarette cases were highlighted. Falling in love with silver cigarette cases was a natural attraction for me. The author of the post said that photographs would look great in these cases. That was my OMG moment. I would give my eye teeth, as they say, to find that blog again and thank that person for introducing me to cigarette cases. So let me introduce you to a few of mine. Let's see what they look like individually.

I collect silver cigarette cases from all over the world. I think they are fascinating. Oh and don't they make awesome picture frames? That blogger was absolutely right. By the way, meet my little prince.

I love the corners on this German silver cigarette case.

Using silver cigarette cases as picture frames is ideal because they are quite versatile. As you can see, you can use them portrait or landscape. These Halloween photos are perfect in this vintage English cigarette case.

I fell in love with this enameled cigarette case by the Saart Brothers because it perfectly compliments my mother's jewelry box. She received this beautiful jewelry box from Asia when she was in junior high school.

So I keep one of my favorite photos of my mom inside this beautiful cigarette case.

This cigarette case has an amazing scene of a beautiful temple on the cover which is the perfect accent to the photo of my little prince and me.

This very small cigarette case hails from England and is the perfect size for this small picture of my mother as a little girl. It compliments the platinum embossed vintage plate that I picked up from a wonderful gal named Linda, on my way to the Florida Keys.

Do you have a favorite item you have repurposed?

Life in Silhouette

What's It Wednesday #134
I've always had a fascination with silhouettes. It's as if you've captured a shadow, like in Peter Pan. Recently I found this lovely pair. They are not cut outs, but are hand-painted onto the glass. At just the right angle, they really do cast a shadow.

Notice the fine details. Why you can even see the brush strokes! Her hair and his lace collar are amazing.

They are my absolute favorites!

This one is from the 50's. I love the convex glass with the colored scene behind. The only thing better than having this one...

is having a pair!

The images are applied to the glass and set in their vintage frames.

The last pair is a dapper lady and gent I've had for years. I've seen people fill whole walls with them. I've not been that lucky, but I'm happy with what I have, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled.
Big Hugs &
Happy Hunting!
Patti

Colours of Fall

What's It Wednesday #133

Ok so Fall does not technically begin until 10:29p.m. EDT, on September 22nd (Can you tell I am a nerd?). For some reason, I am already in an Autumn frame of mind. So out came the Apple Pumpkin and the Autumn Leaves Yankee Candles to put us right in the mood.

Although, where I live the leaves don't actually turn, I can pretend that they do with a Fall center piece on the dining table.

I have to admit, Spring is my absolute fave season but this year I am totally digging the oranges, yellows, reds, golds, dark greens, and browns. Oh those little pumpkins make me want to bake a couple of delicious Fall inspired pies.

I am not even feeling particularly pressed to get into the spirit of the season at all. Just feeling extra joyous these days and extremely grateful. I am in the mood to just have fun and enjoy the winding down of 2014. This Fall Season I am going to really embrace the "100 Days of Holidays".

Normally I am quite put off by the early arrival of seasonal items. This year, I think I am just down-rite giddy. Is there anyone else feeling the spirit of the Fall season other than me?
