My Reading Nook

What's It Wednesday #186

At the end of each day, I retreat to my reading nook. This little comfy spot is where I love to unwind and reflect on the day.

This reading nook sits in the corner of my bedroom next to a window. The tufted navy chair was a Mother's Day gift from my husband. It is super comfy, in fact if I am not careful I have been known to have fallen asleep within five minutes of sitting in the chair.

I inherited this beautiful antique table from an Aunt. Every evening I light a candle, then grab hand lotion and lip balm from the drawer. I love to grab a mint from the tray and relax with a book, magazine, or my iPad.

Above the chair are two large frames from Kirklands with black and white photos of the family. Constant reminders of my blessings.

Candles always put me in the mood to relax. Lavender candles are my favorite.

Below the chair is a book box from Michaels that houses my manicure set, tweezers, and other small essentials. The basket has a wonderful soft throw that I wrap around when I am reading. Underneath the throw, in the basic, is a bottle of oil (usually olive oil) and perfumed lotion. Before I read, in addition to pampering my hands with hand lotion, I pamper my legs, feet, and arms. Also I have a headset for when I want to watch a video, movie, listen to music, or FaceTime a family member or friend. My reading nook is my personal sanctuary...when the kids aren't sitting it.

What's your personal sanctuary?

Vintage Romance

What's It Wednesday #185
This week is a real What's It Wednesday! From time to time I like to share a few unique items just to keep you guessing. I've chosen these five fab finds to test your wits. If you want to play, make your guesses before you scroll down. Hint, this strikes every Victorian lady's fancy!

Did you get this one? These are ivory glove stretchers. Kid gloves were a favorite, and leather needs stretching to stay supple.

This is a tussie mussie or posy holder. Perfect for one bloom or a small nosegay.

This darling is a vinaigrette. You soak a sponge with your favorite scent and when unpleasant odors arise, a lady would wave it under her nose for relief.

It gets a little harder. This is in rose gold and delicately carved. The ring slides up and down to adjust and open the clasp. It's a skirt lifter. Gather a little of the hem of the gown and away you dance. How elegant and refined!

Last but not least, a hankie holder. The small ring slips on your pinky and the larger one holds the hankie. It can be tucked up a sleeve for hands free dancing. It's beautifully chased and engraved with Ms. Evie Alton's name.

How's that for vintage romance?
Hugs,
Patti

Silver Lining

What's It Wednesday #184

It's been raining non-stop for the past couple of weeks. One rainy afternoon I decided to hit a local Goodwill store. They say that every cloud has a silver lining. Apparently so does the Goodwill store.

I have found silver pieces in the past but never an item this large. This beauty was just $3.00.

Most afternoons a neighbor, friend or family member pays us a visit. So this large bowl was the perfect place to keep a variety of beverages handy.

I keep it well stocked each day. Although it's primarily for our guest the drink choices tend to get consumed by everyone in the family.

Nothing like convenience and beauty. I think this is the most awesome find I have at the Goodwill. I cannot wait to go back to see if there are any more clouds with a silver lining.

Do you have a favorite item you found on a rainy day or at a Goodwill?
