Life in Silhouette

What's It Wednesday #134
I've always had a fascination with silhouettes. It's as if you've captured a shadow, like in Peter Pan. Recently I found this lovely pair. They are not cut outs, but are hand-painted onto the glass. At just the right angle, they really do cast a shadow.

Notice the fine details. Why you can even see the brush strokes! Her hair and his lace collar are amazing.

They are my absolute favorites!

This one is from the 50's. I love the convex glass with the colored scene behind. The only thing better than having this one...

is having a pair!

The images are applied to the glass and set in their vintage frames.

The last pair is a dapper lady and gent I've had for years. I've seen people fill whole walls with them. I've not been that lucky, but I'm happy with what I have, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled.
Big Hugs &
Happy Hunting!
Patti

  5. Hi Patti. I just love the silhouettes too. I have the same two in the middle that you have (I think they might be a little bit older than from the 50's as I was in high school then and I had mine when I was a little girl. The only thing is for some reason I don't have the photos behind them. I remember they were there when I was little..Happy Wednesday and thanks for hosting..Judy

  23. I only have one pair of framed silhouettes (George & Martha), very nice, and I am debating selling them in the upcoming barn sale I'm getting ready for. Oh yes! I also have silhouette cutouts of my daughters that were done in grade school - treasures (though not framed). I only rediscovered the 2nd of my 2 daughters' cutouts when I purged my basement!
Thank you for hosting, and have a great week ending!

  28. Oh how I love silhouettes Patti! Yours are so lovely!! The three dimensional type are the most special but all of them are such treasures. I have plans to re-do my master bedroom in gray tones and use silhouettes of my Dad & siblings that I'm very blessed to have and I also have one from a dear friend of "days gone by" that will be the centerpiece of them. I hope I can do them justice.

Please stop by to take a peek at my studio re-do. All budget, yard sale & dumpster treasures!! LOL

  43. PATTI!

Good morning dear Patti! What great treasures you've found! I just discovered a new antique shop that just moved in not far from my home. It is by far the BEST one in the Twin Cities, and we have some good ones, but this one has more French antiques and silhouettes, chandelier, EVERYTHING FRENCH!

So you too my friend, are in full-swing at school! YES, I am back, but not as a sub. Last year I got back into the district as a part-time traveling teacher. I am doing the same this year but with .77 hrs a week. I teach one 8th grade French class at the middle school on B days only, then teach three higher level French courses at the neighboring high school. It's GREAT.

This job (as you know!) is keeping me busy so the creative summer I experienced has changed, but I try to make time to write when I can. Our jobs however, as educators do give us opportunity to be creative, and that's what I love.

Wishing you FUN and joy at school and happy hunting! Anita

  48. Silhouettes, oh yes! Love them as well and have a couple boxed up have not used them as of yet in this home.
The ones from the 50's my grandmother had several on her walls, I remember as a little girl just sitting at the dinning table and starring a the wall that displayed them so gently in wonderment as to the delicately blackened paintings making up stories as to what they were talking about and what they were doing as entertainment in the scene.

It seems every touching post of beauty you post, you touch my heart in fond memories of times lost yet memories stored away.
Beautiful walls filled with silhouettes frames I also love this look and can see this done in your home beautifully. Can't wait to see your collection grow on down the line.

Thank you love for always taking the time to visit me, spreading your love with comments that add some of your grace and beauty to my post.

    Xx
