Got any ideas?
A knife handle maybe?
It has to be a wax seal, right?
Nope!
It’s a phone dialer!
This sweet little novelty is from the era of glamour, the 1940s, when elegance reigned. What Hollywood Starlet would risk a chip or break to a perfectly manicured nail?
Can’t you just see Lauren Bacall taking this for a spin?
Fits perfectly!
Fits perfectly!
We want to give a big thank you to all of you who linked up, visited, or wished us well on our “Linky Launch”. We’d love to have you back to share your amazing what’s its or… Whatever!
We had so much fun visiting all of the wonderful posts that were linked up to our very first linky party. Here are our picks of the week. Be sure to visit these amazing posts:
Karen, over at Shabby Sweet Cottage, took a very ordinary Dollar Store ornament and made it extraordinary.
Barbara at 21 Rosemary Lane, created a beautiful and elegant mantel.
Vanna of Delusions of Grandeur, shared her gorgeous mantel mirror in her "Shabby Little Powder Room".
Don't miss this gorgeous French hutch at Comfy Little Place. The transformation is amazing!
Theresa at The Old White House made a fabulous advent calendar that is not to be believed.
Finally, this will make you "SEW" happy when you look at all the hand stitched magic at Shabbily By The Sea.

Love it! So classy! I could use one of those right now! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight this is. I loved the feel of those circular dials on telephones and the satisfying brrr... as it wound back.
ReplyDeleteAh Memories!!!
Hugs, Angela.
Wow! I have never heard of a phone dialer. How interesting. Makes good sense, though, doesn't it? Plus, it is so elegantly designed and pretty.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought it was a tussie, then I saw the closed end. That's a very pretty one.
ReplyDeleteHello ladies... oooh, I already knew what it was!... the 40's is my very favorite era in time... I often say I wish I had been born earlier than I was so I could have experienced those glamorous, romantic years... yes, I can just see Lauren Bacall dialing Bogie up late at night, not wanting to break her perfectly manicured nail... love your vintage phone as well... I am ready to link up when you put the link out there... soo much fun!... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteI love it! I would have never guessed.
ReplyDeleteDee
Ohh so fabulous! What a fun and elegant little tool.
ReplyDeletethat´s so cool! you have a wonderful blog :)
ReplyDeleteThose would actually come in useful now a days, push buttons can be such a pain!!! My mother could have used one. I remember her using a pencil or pen to dial the phone.
ReplyDeleteI had a reproduction of that phone, in my bedroom as a teenager. I loved it...........all my friends hated using it!
Thanks so much for posting!
What a great idea and how totally glamous it is. Although, back in the day when I got my nails done, I could have used it too. I love 30s and 40s for glamour. Those satin gowns were so sexy.
ReplyDeleteBoy, how old I feel. I have one of those. It is even monogramed. I will have to dig it out. Kim over at Wow Us Wed showed one one day. She thought it was a letter opener I meant to tell her what it was but forgot about it until I saw this.
ReplyDeleteHey, I am joining up this week. Congratulations on your success. Blessings, Ginger

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun find! The 1940s were as full of one use only gizmos as the Victorian era--I saw a vintage add for a toaster that only toasted a half a piece of toast for breakfast for one!
ReplyDeleteA phone dialer! You always find the most unique and elegant items from the past!
ReplyDeleteKaree

ReplyDeleteIn the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, Holly and Paul go into Tiffany's and decide to buy something. The only item they can afford is a sterling silver telephone dialer! $6.75! They decide against it and had something engraved instead. I would have gone for the dialer if it was as pretty as yours!

ReplyDeleteSherry
I've never seen one of those! How wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI have a trunk of unusual items from the Victorian persiod, and one that I love (and do not know the correct name) is what they used to crimp the cuffs on their sleeves to design a "rippled look". It's similar to a small iron. I should have included it with my recent post of my holiday decorations in my Victorian home. I love to use what has been handed down to me through the years...everything I own has such historical significance, not to mention it all comes from family members, which is priceless to me.
I LOVE your blog--always so informative ...and simply beautiful!
Wishing you a magical holiday season~
Lisa
