What's It Wednesday #86
I'm
on a quest to get things out of boxes and drawers, and have them out
where I can enjoy them, or out they go. A little “late” Spring
cleaning, so to speak.
celluloid collars were invented so your shirt became a “dress” shirt, and the collar was always clean. (Even if the rest wasn't!?) The box is just gorgeous with this pretty lass on the front and the fancy fasteners So feminine, but they were made to hold men's collars. The top for collars and the bottom for cuffs.
I have a few beaded collars and wanted to use them in a special way. I took this old frame and lined it with lace. Then I displayed my gold beaded collar, (and a bit of bling of course!) That's all it took, and I was on a roll!
This
was fun! I lined this gorgeous frame with burlap and an over lay of
lace. I added three beaded collars with cameos as the fasteners (
That's a 2 for!)
I
ran a strip of silk down the center so the collar backs didn't show.
(There are labels there.) Not very romantic.
There
you have it, out of the drawer and where I can enjoy them. Now are
you hot under the collar, too?
Hugs,
Patti

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting collection! Such beauty in old things. I really love how you chose to display them...sometimes that makes all the difference in elevating a simple object to regal status. Thank you kindly for hosting!
ReplyDeleteDarling Patti!
ReplyDeleteYour vignettes are always so beautifully arranged, and you have one of the most exclusive collection of Victorian style goodies! I once had a 1940s pearl collar as such, and I enjoyed wearing it! Two moves across the country didn't help from losing so many of my vintage pieces!
THANK YOU for your visit and kind words. Whatever art we seek, let's keep doing it and improving it - but before we can master anything, I have to master the over-enthusiasm of thrill-seeking, and learn the craft first. That's what I've been doing in my poetry writing class all summer. It has been such an eye-opening experience!
Have a lovely day dear Patti! Anita
Oh..Patty...what a romantic and original idea! You' re are very creative. I love the way you displayed these gorgeous collars and the frame is fabulous.

Love the vintage collars ladies! Thanx for joining THT!
ReplyDeleteMy maternal grandmother got married in her daily clothes (long story: greatgrandfather didn't allow the wedding, my dear father was on the way - miracles do happen you know?!... long story) so she just put a crochet collar over her sweater to add the bridely look.
ReplyDeleteThose were the times Dear Friend. But I do think we're living the best ever because we can appreciate the romance and whimsy of the stories without the hardship that those years must have been.
As usual your pieces are PRICELESS. So glad they're coming out to play... with us.
Love,
T
On the other side my maternal grandfather was very poor and when the people he worked for sent him to take a picture in a photographer he worried how his poor clothes would look in it. Then his boss said "Dont worry António, the holes will look like lace in the picture" ahahahah
Hi, Patti. You are always so creative with your vignettes and how you display your lovely collections! These are no exception. And thank you for the bit of education about collars and cuffs, etc. Had no idea! And btw, thank you for visiting and sweet comments about my white baptism table, Patti. ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collars and what a gorgeous way to display them. Things like that do need to come out of the drawers and be enjoyed! Thanks for linking to TTF.
ReplyDeleteLinda
Patti,
ReplyDeleteThis collar box is gorgeous! I don't have any collars, so I think I would use it as a jewelry box or maybe hold wedding treasures. The frame you made is very lovely, what a clever idea. There is always something unique in your home, and that's what makes it special. I am thinking a lot lately about what you said....if it's in a box and not out to see, then I want to get rid of it. I've been doing a bit of spring cleaning too.
I think my favorite was the beaded collar.
Love,
~Sheri
What beautiful displays with the beaded collars. I remember having one of those, but don't know what happened to it!
ReplyDeleteI'm also getting things out of drawers and boxes and displaying them to enjoy.
Katherine

ReplyDeleteLove that beaded collar in the frame.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!

I love this idea. I too have too much stuff in boxes, drawers, cabinets you name it. Stuff that is really meant to be seen and not hidden yet my energy level has not matched my ideas in months. I shall start small with one idea as you have and move forward. I love the framing of vintage finds. I recall growing up grampa always said, "boys, I don't care if your britches are dirty but make sure your whites are clean and starched for Sunday" He always spoke of the purity of a white shirt in God's house. You gave me a precious memory tonight. Thank you. Tammy
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me with your projects. I love 'em all and I love the light fixture too! I like your style!
ReplyDeleteYour post is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe images are amazing!
xo
:D Thanks for linking-up. Wow, what a wonderful way to display and actually enjoy the pretty beaded collars! The box is interesting, too. I can imagine wearing a pretty collar like that to an afternoon tea.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine had a collection of very nice handkerchiefs with exquisite lace. She ironed them then pressed them between two pieces of glass with a simple gold frame around it. Then the lace really popped because she displayed them on a wall painted a deep green. So pretty!
Enjoy your weekend!
xo,
RJ
Such a pretty way to display those gorgeous little items that we all tend to keep boxed up! I had always wondered why many of the old novels I read talk about men working in the their "shirt sleeves," usually the scriveners in Dickens novels. Now I think I get it after reading about the collar and cuffs! That box is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing with Inspired Sunday at Sunday View!
ReplyDeleteThe beaded collars are so lovely! Thanks so much for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
