What's
It Wednesday #58
One
of the most fun and inexpensive collections that I'm always on the
hunt for are shoe clips or buckles. They are such a very Victorian
fashion statement.
How
ingenious to get a new pair of shoes just by changing a clip! I
always add them to my flats to add a little pop and sparkle.
Shoe
clips are pretty plentiful if you know what you're looking for. This
is what the backs look like.
Most
often I find them in grab bags as singles, though. If you find them,
don't pass these up!
They
make beautiful necklaces,
pins,
or
embellishments to purses,
and
of course shoe clips.
The
variety of designs and materials make for remarkable and endless
collections and possibilities.
We
love to show you something a bit unique and quirky, like shoe clips!
Hope
you'll incorporate a few buckles and clips into your wardrobe or
design, too.
Hugs,
Patti

Shoe clips, hmmmmm you got me thinking about whether I even see these when I go thrifting. Goodness, this will be another reason to stay in the thrift store for more hunting. Love it and thank you for sharing your beautiful pieces.

I LOVE the idea of clipping a shoe clip on a necklace. What an excellent idea and a fun thing to collect. Thanks so much for hosting the party.
ReplyDeleteDanielle
These are lovely. I especially like the first one. I think some look very 1930's x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Collections, thanks for hosting:-)
ReplyDeleteUh oh! I think you have inspired a new lovely thing to look for when I'm at my favorite antique malls! So many pretty things to do with these shoe clips...the possibilities are endless. Thank you for hosting. It's always a fun time at Ivy and Elephants.
ReplyDeletemelinda

ReplyDeleteLorena
I love the ideas and must be on the lookout for them :)
ReplyDeleteAll the shoe clips are wonderful. I use to have some years ago that I would wear. How fun is this. Thanks for hosting. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThese shoe clips are so pretty, and what a fun way to change the look of shoes! I also like the idea of wearing them on necklace chains. So cute! great post!!!
ReplyDeleteI always thought big clip on earrings could work for shoe clips. I love the whole idea of them. When shoe clips were invented, shoes were real shoes...none of these thin soled flats with a bit of rubber for a heel. I miss real flats. I liked the idea of putting some bling on handbags.xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting each week! I am finally back to regular blogging. Love this idea too. I have a friend who even uses shoe clips on her sleeve sometimes! She did it for a party and it looked so cute. XO, pinky
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shoe clips! Thank you so much for hosting...hugs, Penny

ReplyDeleteOh Patti I love all shoe clips I have some also , maybe 2 pairs of the rhinestone ones.

Hi Patty. I must teall you....most of what you have are dress clips...not shoe clips. Shoe clips had shorter and wider backs. The long ones with teeth are definitely dress clips , made popular in the mid Victorian era through the early 1950s, and often came in pairs as well as singles. Many were made but unsigned by famous makers. You have some great examples. They are being used as pendants very successfully which is wonderful because they are beautiful! You have a great collection!
ReplyDeleteRuth
Dear Ruth, I wondered why some of the backs were different! Thanks so much for the additional information. Now I have another way of displaying my clips too!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
I love this idea. Now I'll have one more thing to keep my eyes our for when flea shopping. Just what I need :(

I found an Edwardian pair of shoe buckles which I featured in one of my posts....they are not visually as stunning as yours, but they are still beautiful.

Looking forward to you visiting me at, Ivy, Phyllis and Me! when you have time.

I remember my mother used to have several pairs of shoe clips in the 1960's. I don't own any but I've used large clip-on earrings as a substitute! Thank you so much for featuring me this week, your party is always so unique!
ReplyDeleteKaree

Hi Patti,
ReplyDeleteshoe buckles had a revival in the 70th here. I had some pairs but don't know now where they are gone. Such treasures like your haven't been in my collection. They look really charming and I would love to find them. Thank you for sharing this interesting post and for hosting this sweet event.
Best greetings, Johanna
Oh what yummies! I love the idea of taking something so simple, like a pair of regular ol' shoes, and embellishing them so easily! We really ought to bring that back and make them popular again! Love your collection!! Thanks so much for sharing it with us for Pearls and Lace Thursday!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Doni
Oh my, how I remember wearing these clips back in the 80's. I loved the added bling they brought to my shoes! Wish I had kept them, though. I never see them at yard sales or in shops- but maybe I should start paying more attention. Thanks for hosting, Patti.
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice idea to add attraction for a women's shoe.
ReplyDeleteHi Patti, Your shoe clips are wonderful and you gave me some great ideas on how to use them. I found one in a box of stuff I bought at auction. Now I know what to do with it. Thanks for joining the Open House party.
ReplyDeletexx, Sherry

I love the idea of wearing them as a pendant..will have to try it.
Yours are so pretty....
Big hugs to you too,

WOW PATTI!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOK let me first say that I always have a very difficult time getting into your blog; the page take literally minutes to appear and sometimes never does appear, but today, it only took about one minute.
THESE ARE SUCH A GREAT COLLECTOR'S ITEM. I have worn toe buckles on my shoes before and they truly make a statement. These that you show are just beautiful!
Thank you my dear for coming by to visit. Have a great weekend! Anita
Hi Patti! Oh, I love your pretty shoe clips. I remember a time back when I had a few but none as gorgeous as yours. Thank you so much for popping in to see me and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh, those shoe clips are wonderful, I do find them from time to time, yours are gorgeous!! You always show such fabulous things!
ReplyDeleteCarol
What gorgeous shoe clips! You have an amazing collection! I just so happened to find one several years ago, by accident. It was at the bottom of a box of beads that I bought at a church rummage sale. It's marcasite, and so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh! My!...
ReplyDeleteThose shoe clips not only the coolest thing designed but really do make a shoe pop. I had a set so many years ago that were my grandmothers and for the life of me cannot remember what happened to them. My daughter buys ballet flats that are beveled as if a shoe clip are on them, she most attracted to this design. But the plain one could use a set or two of your beauties :)
thank you sweet dear blog friend for taking the time to stop by and express a few words about my latest customer order, your so right the customer is always right and sometimes they come up with new and creative things for me to paint :)
Looking forward to Valentine post I am sure yours will be full of love and hearts.
Xoxo

O, Patti,
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you I have at times taken vintage broches and have pinned them to curtain tie backs, and lamp shades adding that romantic bling, as for my design style now I would have to find a tin or galvanized one if I were going to pin it to anything :)
I alway love seeing the beauty you ladies come up with.
See you soon.
A beautifully inspiring up and coming week to you!

ReplyDeleteWow, what a stunning collection you have. I love the way you embellished the purses, and they really do make fabulous necklaces too. Thanks for sharing:-)
ReplyDeletePatti! Oh my! So pretty and so clever-I have many flats myself and there are so many times I wish they had a bit of glam- so now I know what I need to be looking for- Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love each and every one of those lovely shoe clips! You've inspired me to try starting up a collection of my very own. Best wishes for blessed and wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThese shoe clips are pretty and sparkly, and let me tell you, I like sparkly. You are clever to use them as necklace pendants and on a purse too.
ReplyDeleteWe all love some bling in our wardrobe and your shoe clips certainly add the unexpected. I'll need to watch for some of these treasures. Patti, thanks for leaving the sweet comment on my January Sparkles post!
ReplyDeleteDebra
I remember shoe clips being popular in the 80's weren't they? I'm not sure, but I recall wearing some at one time. The old ones are so pretty too. Those were some good ideas on how to wear them when they're not in a pair.
ReplyDeleteI love that one cream colored purse with the clip on it. How gorgeous! Thanks for the reminder invite to come by and link up. I so appreciate you having us all over!
ReplyDeleteLiz
