One, Two, Buckle My Shoe

What's It Wednesday #58
One of the most fun and inexpensive collections that I'm always on the hunt for are shoe clips or buckles. They are such a very Victorian fashion statement.
 
How ingenious to get a new pair of shoes just by changing a clip! I always add them to my flats to add a little pop and sparkle.
 
Shoe clips are pretty plentiful if you know what you're looking for. This is what the backs look like.
 
Most often I find them in grab bags as singles, though. If you find them, don't pass these up!
 
They make beautiful necklaces,
 
pins,
 
or embellishments to purses,
 
and of course shoe clips.
 
The variety of designs and materials make for remarkable and endless collections and possibilities.
 
We love to show you something a bit unique and quirky, like shoe clips!

    Shoe clips, hmmmmm you got me thinking about whether I even see these when I go thrifting. Goodness, this will be another reason to stay in the thrift store for more hunting. Love it and thank you for sharing your beautiful pieces.

    I always thought big clip on earrings could work for shoe clips. I love the whole idea of them. When shoe clips were invented, shoes were real shoes...none of these thin soled flats with a bit of rubber for a heel. I miss real flats. I liked the idea of putting some bling on handbags.xoxo, Susie

    Hi Patty. I must teall you....most of what you have are dress clips...not shoe clips. Shoe clips had shorter and wider backs. The long ones with teeth are definitely dress clips , made popular in the mid Victorian era through the early 1950s, and often came in pairs as well as singles. Many were made but unsigned by famous makers. You have some great examples. They are being used as pendants very successfully which is wonderful because they are beautiful! You have a great collection!

    What a lovely addition to a pair of shoes, or clipped onto a jacket or jumper.
    I found an Edwardian pair of shoe buckles which I featured in one of my posts....they are not visually as stunning as yours, but they are still beautiful.

    I remember my mother used to have several pairs of shoe clips in the 1960's. I don't own any but I've used large clip-on earrings as a substitute! Thank you so much for featuring me this week, your party is always so unique!

    shoe buckles had a revival in the 70th here. I had some pairs but don't know now where they are gone. Such treasures like your haven't been in my collection. They look really charming and I would love to find them. Thank you for sharing this interesting post and for hosting this sweet event.

    Oh my, how I remember wearing these clips back in the 80's. I loved the added bling they brought to my shoes! Wish I had kept them, though. I never see them at yard sales or in shops- but maybe I should start paying more attention. Thanks for hosting, Patti.

    Those shoe clips not only the coolest thing designed but really do make a shoe pop. I had a set so many years ago that were my grandmothers and for the life of me cannot remember what happened to them. My daughter buys ballet flats that are beveled as if a shoe clip are on them, she most attracted to this design. But the plain one could use a set or two of your beauties :)

    O, Patti,
    I forgot to tell you I have at times taken vintage broches and have pinned them to curtain tie backs, and lamp shades adding that romantic bling, as for my design style now I would have to find a tin or galvanized one if I were going to pin it to anything :)
    I alway love seeing the beauty you ladies come up with.

    I remember shoe clips being popular in the 80's weren't they? I'm not sure, but I recall wearing some at one time. The old ones are so pretty too. Those were some good ideas on how to wear them when they're not in a pair.
