Spring is in the Forest

What's It Wednesday #158

Every year, at the start of Spring, I visit some dear friends who have the luxury of living in a National Park. This is where Spring begins for me.

Spring is when they pull out the Airboat and enjoy an early morning trek through the grasslands and mangroves.

Spring is when they find skulls of animals that may have perished in the winter or years before. They keep them and honor their precious neighbors. Some they may have  personally known. 

Spring is when they put out new antiques they acquired. Some, like this bear trap, to remind all who visit that these should not be set in the woods at all. 

Spring is when they gather more old bottles that people have discarded in the forest throughout the years, turning them into a great conversation piece in the yard. 

Spring is when the magnificent ferns start to unfurl for all to see.

Spring is when a discarded antique fire wheel, that use to house the fire hose, is found that once belonged to the local firehouse. 

Spring is when the grasshoppers come out to nibble on the fresh vegetation. 

Spring is when you find a place in your forest garden for an old jug.

Spring in the forest means you don't need any fertilizer and you don't use pesticides. Everything grows and blooms beautifully, naturally.

Spring is a perfect time to find the perfect place to put your antique plow and hook up your beautiful red water pump. 

Spring is when your neighbors join you on the porch for a morning snack. In the afternoon you call to the  hawks, deer, and owls, just to name a few, to join you for their daily snack as well.

Spring is when you take all the finds of the forests that should not be there and add them to your piece of paradise. 

Spring is when I take my yearly hour and half drive to visit my dear friends of the forest. This long drive requires an immediate stop to the Loo where a 5 Cent deposit is required. Just kidding! These two well known environmentalists have an amazing sense of humor. They inspire me to do all that I can to take care of our ever changing environment and to pass on this legacy to my children. I am so blessed to have these amazing people in my life.
