Lady Sings the Blues, Again!

What's It Wednesday #38

The only blues that make me absolutely happy are porcelains and transferware. By the 14th century, the Chinese had become experts on this, now, universal technique. I can't get enough of all things blue and white. Last summer we displayed our collections of blue and whites in our Lady Sings the Blues Part I and Lady Sings the Blues Part II. The collection continues to grow.

My enthusiasm for blue and white pottery, porcelains, and stoneware started when I was a little girl. My great-grandmother's dinners seemed to taste so much better on her blue and white dinnerware. This piece is my first piece of blue and white stoneware. It sat proudly in the kitchen of my college apartment.  I now display it proudly in my current kitchen.

After college I decided to expand my collection and my addiction it continues to grow.

Porcelain ginger jars are my weakness. Each piece tells a unique and special story.

Ferns really look nice in beautiful jars and vases. I will use any excuse to keep collecting blue and whites.

I figured blue and whites on and above the baker's rack in the kitchen would be a great place to display them. Ok what really happened was I got the baker's rack and then decided, "hey I need to fill it with blue and whites".

Flowers inside blue and white vases and jars enhance the beauty of each piece.

Not only do I search for large blue and white porcelains and stoneware, I look or miniature pieces as well and use them as accent pieces. You don't want to know how many miniature cups and saucers I have hidden around the house. I think it is so cool when a guest glances and happens to eye one of these little treasures.

I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful swan.

Plates on the wall is such a classic way to display unique blue and white plates. A current project is to place blue and white plates over my grand-mother's vanity in the master bathroom.

Blue and white umbrella stands hold any and everything accept umbrellas in my house. My favorite items to put in the stands are flowers.

What are some things you can't stop collecting?

There is something very special about blue and white, pottery, porcelain and stoneware, it just looks so right somehow. I particularly like your umbrella stand, and I love ginger jars.

I love all your pretty blues and whites! I have a couple things here and there, but nothing I'd call a "collection" of those colors. My most recent was a little egg cup that my English friend brought me from Holland when she was here visiting last month. It's white with pretty blue tulips on it...I love it!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Blue and white is always classic. I have the same pot as the one you've had since college days. I guess I've had mine since the 80s and it was one of my first pieces of blue and white. I've recently found a second one, so now I have a pair. Yipee! They are wonderful holding plants or just perfect as they are sitting their with lid on top. ;-)
Thanks for hosting! ~ Sarah
