Family Favorite

What's It Wednesday #52
via
You know that it's the holidays by the smell of vanilla and spice in the air. Christmas cakes, cookies, and pies are the order of the day. So whether it's treats for a cookie exchange, office party, or a family feast, we are all pulling out our recipe books and rolling pins.

via

In our home a favorite for many years has been Mystery Pecan Pie. I was a young bride and new mother when I found this recipe at Aunt Baby's house in a Pillsbury Bake-Off cookbook. She gave me the book and I tried many of the recipes, but the one that became a staple and family tradition is this yummy pie.

via

I have deep southern roots so anything with a pecan in it gets my attention. This pie takes the traditional pecan pie and kicks it up a notch with a layer of cheese cake baked right in. It's also pretty amazing to watch as the layers rearrange themselves as they rise. I always use the Mrs. Smith's deep dish crust as the base. The cheese cake filling covers the bottom, pecans (lots!), and the Karo syrup filling is poured on the top. But as you see, the syrup layer ends up on the bottom, the cream cheese is in the middle, and the pecans rise to the top. It is delicious alone or with a dollop of whipped cream or scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream on top. Heavenly!

Any good southern meal is topped off with dessert, and this is one that I always get requests for. Even my friend Maria who doesn't eat nuts loves this pie. It drives her son crazy because she picks out the pecans!! (But don't worry, I just have double on my piece, hee, hee!!)

Hoping your holidays are happy, healthy, and oh so sweet!
Big Hugs,
Patti

LOVE pecans, and pecan pie especially. I never had had it until I went to university and had it in the dorm cafeteria at age 18. Love at first bite! My parents were British, and never would have thought of it! Thanks for hosting as usual!

I'll be right over! LOVE pecan pie!!
Also...did you know that your blog is really slow to load? I actually thought that you didn't have anything going when I stopped by sometime ago. But I saw a link somewhere else today and thought I'd check again. It was again the framework for the blog but no content....and then I got called away....and when I came back the content was there. I'm so glad to know that you are still active in blogland. But...there may be others like me who thought you had stopped.
Blessings!!

Hi Patti and Paula,
Pecan pie is one of my favourites, although pecan nuts are here really expensive. But the taste is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this delicious cake, it made my mouth watering.

Hello Dear Hearts!
You have an Aunt Baby? How sweet is that?
Always thought that by keeping those names allow us and future generations to envision - and belong - to the circle of love and tenderness that forms A Family...

Pie looks amazing. Contrary to Maria I'm hopeless with nuts - any nuts ahahah. We don't easily find pecan here... I wonder if I could use other kind?!
Enjoy it, its swetness and the blessings of memory.
Yours,
Teresa
