Happy Birthday to Me!

What's It Wednesday #63

Today I celebrated my birthday. I started the day off by thanking God for His many blessings. Then I treated myself. Many of you may remember that I love to collect cigarette cases.

If you didn't see that post, go to my Up in Smoke post.

Then you will see part of my collection and how I have turned them into picture frames.

Well I decided to buy myself a birthday present so my BFF and I went to visit one of my favorite local antique dealers and she just happened to have this adorable compact purse. Of course, me being me, I could not possibly leave it in the store.

I could not believe my luck. This purse is several of the things I love to collect all rolled up into one compact purse. I think I will call her Rose. Rose dates back to the early 1930s.

On the outside of the purse is a place that holds your tube of lipstick. When you open her up, there are a couple of compartments. I was pleasantly surprised to find the mirror intact. On the right side of the first compartment is a compact.

As soon as I opened Rose up I wondered about the very fashionable original lady that once carried this purse around. Here you can see the compact was well used.

When I went into the second compartment, I found that this is where the dance cards and cigarettes were kept. I of course placed a picture of my darling son Sebastian in there immediately.

I sang "Happy Birthday" to myself all the way home.

I couldn't wait to take Rose out for my birthday dinner with the family. It was the perfect accessory for the evening. I can't tell you how many compliments I received carrying around this vintage purse. I can imagine how special the original owner must have felt when she carried it around.

How will you treat yourself this year on your birthday?

xoxoxo

I usually don't make a big deal out of my Birthday and I am usually working on it so it is no big deal but this year, I did do a post on being Live at 55! Because there was a time when I didn't think I would live to see 55....

I might take courage this year, on my birthday, and begin a collection... the house where I grew up was full of collections, that were not to be touched just admired and one day they were gone and I felt homeless so deep inside I must have vowed not to collect. At all. But soemtimes I wish I did. Touchable things. So, who knows?, maybe this is the year...

You have a very handsome Family! Congratulations all around!

Happy Birthday!
You really got a neat, neat present there!
I was just thinking about your blog the other day - it's been a while since I've stopped by. I had reopened my Pintrest (account?) and had seen a couple of photos I'd liked from your blog - got me to thinking. Nice to see you again.
I was looking at business card holders the other day - thinking about how cool they can look in their little snappy-snapping cases. Then, seeing what you've done w/the cigarette cases ... that's really neat. Some nice whatchamacallits. And, your featured links have some great items in them too!
I'm visiting by way of Sarah's Homemaking Link Up, but I think you might also be on Pink Saturday? I'm link #47 on Sarah's and 78 on Beverly's. (My ID takes you to one of my other blogs.)
Enjoyed my visit and seeing you once again!
Thanks, Jenn
