Sweet Memories

When you're a collector the hardest part is finding a way to display your collections so you can enjoy them. My solution is a memory jar.


I love vintage baby items! Little soft shoes and crocheted hats.

This lovely water color portrait had to be some mother's pride and joy. So, too this little Bible and rosary.

Baby items in silver, cups, spoons 

this sweet rattle with built in whistle.

This is the oldest piece I think. A glass baby bottle with a rubber nipple. I just love it!

This cute teething ring is so sweet. It has the date, time, birth weight, and name engraved in the little silver hanging rattle.

I love that displaying all the items in this apothecary jar allows them to be out and enjoyed each day.

As much as I enjoy finding vintage baby items.

I'm enjoying my latest baby collection the most. They're precious now and grow more so each day. As my little grandson turned two, I realized that his tiny onesies, combs, binkies were the treasures that carry the most valuable memories. The jar I’ll take down and... smile.

    Beautiful way to display these items. Looking at the vintage pieces makes me wonder about their previous owners. Can you imagine in years to come, people looking at our precious things and wondering about their history.

    What a brilliant idea! I love the memory jar. You can see everything, yet it's protected, too. I'm going to steal your idea for some of the baby items I've collected (family heirlooms) but I need to get the stuff in one place and then find a suitable jar.     Good afternoon, Patti my dear! I love that quote you open up with; smell as well as taste is one of the strongest triggers for memory, isn't it? And I love your take on the memory jar, holding things so precious that may not have been a part of your family, but hold possibilities of ideas. I still have two pairs of my baby shoes, tiny blanket and a few little toys that do have a certain scent to them that remind me of my childhood. Sometimes however, smelling those "perfumes" are too difficult to take....but nonetheless, they are from memory and so precious.

    What great finds there, Patti! I am trying to figure out how big that baby bottle is.....It looks a lot like the ones we used to feed the nursing calves/goats with when they were newborn and Mom wouldn't feed them. They always had black nipples on them. xo Diana

    This is the most precious of posts! I too, love vintage baby items, and in fact have many of my babies' things. Though they're not quite vintage yet, they have vintage qualities--hand-embroidered linen teeny little clothes and bibs, their silver baby cups, etc. I've never seen a rattle like yours with a whistle, though. I love it, and will keep an eye out for it. We bought silver rattles for our grandbabies, and I've of course saved them (even a silver toothbrush for the first one!). The teething ring/rattle you have is what we bought for our last one, and I'm so pleased that I purchased it from a fellow blogger--Susan at My Place to Yours.

    I just went through boxes last week of all the boxed up memories of sweetness. Those tiny feet shoes wore, mittens for winter, tiny baby rings of gold, clippings of first hair cuts, a special nursery book, all bringing back a flood of memories then I visit you to then be reminded of my journey last week with a box full of love.

    That's a great idea to display small items in a big jar like that. I see those at TJ Maxx all the time, too. I love that old baby bottle. I was in an antique store about a year ago and overheard a lady asking if they had any. She said she collects them and had over 100! Take care - Dawn
