What's It Wednesday #88
Welcome
to another “What's It Wednesday”! Its been a rather hectic week,
what with the start of school on Monday. So through lesson plans and
bulletin boards I didn't quite (read: not at all) get to the post I'd planned. So I'm sharing a collection (yet another!) of powder boxes and compacts. Luckily I'm not showing them all (LOL) just a few favorites.
Silver
topped powder jars are my favorite! I shared them with other vanity
pieces here. These are recent additions.
The
repoussé design and the initials are so
romantic, and the silver overlay and star design in the glass are
pretty unique.
This
tall cylinder one is my favorite. See the unusual lever to open and
close the shaker? So cool!
This is a delicate frosted glass one with gorgeous hand painted flowers
signed
in the corner.
Also there's this pretty pale blue one, footed and topped with jewels.
Then we have the compacts. This one has a finger ring and engine turned design. It carries powder and rouge.
Three nice old ones with cameo cloisonné, handpainting and guilloché designs.
It carries powder and rouge as well. I love that there's still some powder left over.
Love
the couple and gold gilt trim.
Guilloché Enamel with sweet flowers.
Hope
you enjoyed “taking a powder” with me!
Hugs,
Patti

*le sigh*.......Oh, what a gorgeous collection! Powder boxes are a favorite of mine. I can remember when Safari by Ralph Lauren first came out back in the nineties the Ralph Lauren Store had a gorgeous antique vanity display with the fragrance and cut crystal powder jars. This post reminds me of that pretty display! I'll never forget it because it was feminine but in an Out of Africa kind of way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking-up to My Happy List!

I have a thing for jewels, so that is my favorite. I wonder where you find all these treasures. They definitely add something special to your home. I did a post one time on my dressing table. I would love to see your dressing table sometime. You must have so many unique items on it.
Have a nice Friday, dear.

I can't read the back...because it is Norway......but the pictures are enough !! lovely day Ria...x !
ReplyDeleteGood morning Patti!!!
ReplyDeleteYour collection of fine Victorian era (I hope I'm correct!) is so impressive! I have one little jar with such gorgeous silver detail, and used to have a compact from way back in the 20s, that a darling old woman gave me. I had a tiny lipstick on chain attached to the octogonal shaped compact. Oh how I wish I still had that piece! And then there was my mom's compact with mother of pearl and rhinestones, from the 50s.....
Thank you dearest Patti for visiting, even while being so busy with back to school! We don't go back until the day after Labor Day. But I go back to teach one French class in 12th grade and then off to the middle school for an 8th grade class. I think I'll enjoy part-time work and this time, only teaching FRENCH as opposed to a fourth grade class in the French immersion setting.
Wishing you a SUCCESSFUL and unforgettable school year my friend! Anita
Love all the beautiful powder boxes, so pretty!

Hi! Patti!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and for the invite.
I LOVE vintage and antique perfume bottles and vanity jars. I am addicted to sterling repoussé jars and Irice perfume bottles with beautiful rhinestone tops. I've been collecting for years.
I just found a repoussé mirror, brush and comb set last week. I love the initials.... even though they aren't mine.
Love your collections.
Thanks for sharing your beauties with us and for hosting each week.

ReplyDeleteHello Dear,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to come back to your blog, but since you left me such a sweet comment, and a question...Its sooner rather than later...LOL.
Thank you for the comment, it was sweet of you. The carousel does not turn, but it does light up and even can twinkle. Most of my theater dolls have back rounds and chandeliers. You can see some of these on my Etsy to see what I mean. I will be coming back to visit. I think your blog awesome.
