Perfect Scents

What's It Wednesday #89

It's back-to-school time here in Blogland and that means shopping for back to school supplies such as makeup, shoes, clothes, jewelry, and of course perfume. Of course, I am talking about us educators.

In addition, to perfume I just adore beautiful, ornate perfume bottles. I started my collection with a few French bottles and now my newest addition to the collection is this little number from the good old USA. She is a vintage perfume bottle from Stylebuilt.

When I saw her, it was love at first sight. I had to bring her home. I saw the rose on the top of the topper and dauber from across the room.

My fascination with these beautifies is the variety of gorgeous ormolu and cut glass. Each bottle is more beautiful than the last.

My newest addition is not as old as her French big sisters or filigreed, but her detailed gold gilt rose is what makes her stand out.

The other fascination I have for these beautiful ladies are their gorgeous daubers and toppers. I imagine the fine scent that was once housed in the bottle and the fabulous lady that gingerly placed the perfume on her pulse points with the glass dauber.

A lady would never place her finger over the opening of her elegant perfume bottle, tilt it over and apply her favorite scent with her finger. A glass dauber and topper with an ornate top would be used for elegant application (and no contamination) and that makes "Perfect Scents".

What does your favorite perfume bottle look like?

  14. Paula,
She is a beauty, indeed. This is something that I would have on my dressing table for sure. The gold rose is so lovely. I am fascinated with perfume bottles myself, and I just bought one recently with a glass top and silver design, but I think my favorite is the hummingbird one I have.

So nice to visit with you ladies and see all your treasured items.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  20. I love antique perfume bottles, though you won't see any adorning my dressing table, sadly. I have a couple of good perfumes I use all the time - one for day, and one for evening. I always buy them duty free if we are travelling overseas, or a friend is travelling overseas I will get her to buy for me.
Have a wonderful week and thankyou for inviting me to participate.

  49. Juat dropping in from Backyard Neighbor---I don't know how well you know Jeanne, but she's a true, kind, loving neighbor and friend. This post is simply charming, for it went straight to the heart of my own childhood love and covet and fascination for these beautiful things. The shining glass and ornate toppers and those delicate prisms to be handled with a careful hand---those were absolute bliss.

And that they contained such heavenly scents---well, I was sold (even to a mighty longing for that 39c bottle of Blue Waltz in the Ben Franklin store, though my Mother forbade me to touch "that trashy stuff").

Every time I'd see a movie with a lady's boudoir, I'd search the scene for the vanity table (another long-time dream, especially one with a skirt), and when the lady was dressing for the evening, I'd hold my breath as she reached, lifted, daintily touched each earlobe and wrist. I sat up straighter, filled with the aura the well-dressed, delightfully-scented person I longed to be.

And my forays into the vanilla bottle of both our and my Mammaw's kitchen cabinets, with elegant applications with everything ranging from a toothpick to a matchstick---I'd just sail out into the day, confident in my lovely aura and skinned-knee charm.

Oh, My. You DO beat all.
