Elephant Addiction

What's It Wednesday #113

Well everyone I am happy to report that 75% of my boxes are unpacked and the move to our new home went without a hitch...as long as you don't count me getting sick, then my daughter and putting my mother in the hospital, twice. Just grateful to God that everyone is well.

Well as many of you know, yours truly has a major elephant addiction. This wooden find came from an antique dealer out of Rajastan, India which just so happened to fill three of my addictions.

This darling elephant (elephants - addiction number 1) is from early 1900's India and beautifully hand-carved.

Although I love the outside, the inside of the box (boxes - addiction number 2) is what intrigued me the most.

Once I opened the box on it's hinges I wondered how long it took to carve out all of the diamonds and holes.

Inside just got better because those holes in the top and bottom of the wooden case once held cigarettes. This satisfied another addiction (cigarette cases - addiction number 3). Yep, the non-smoker is addicted to cigarette cases.

Up In Smoke
Visit my Up in Smoke post for more on my collection of tobacciana, then you will understand my obsession.

Well I knew exactly what to do with the silver cigarette cases that I have collected over the years. However, I do not know what to do with this little guy other then add him to my elephant addiction collection.

Have you ever collected anything that really had no other purpose then what it was designed?

xoxoxo

Hi Paula,
You've just reminded me of an elephant collection I had as a very young girl - I had forgotten all about it and have no idea where it is now but I sure did have fun collecting! My aunt got me started and used to bring me elephants from all her travels. It's such a treat to see your beautiful treasures each week and I adore your photography!

Elephant addiction is not that common and I don't think there's a cure for it now, so I guess you'll keep collecting! This one is fabulous.

I've always had a fascination with elephants and have a few statues myself. That case of yours is the neatest! I guess my collection of dishes has gone a bit crazy and I sure don't "need" them all but I love them. Congrats on the successful move! It's a big job but I'm sure you're enjoying your new home and it's all worth the extra work.

Glad your eventful move turned out with good. Moving is stressful enough, not to mention everyone getting sick. I think those keys that spell LOVE are awesome. Where did you get those?

I have a collector phobia - I think I told you before I grew up in a house where things were unchangeable through the centuries, because they’d belong to someone and it was a dear collection but when you tried to start one people were already fed up of having to clean up the collections so somehow discourage you to do so ;) - so when I feel it's starting I get a hitch between my should bleades. And then I head into Ivy and gorge in the beauty and sweetness with which you dedicate to yours. You might probably save me down the road ahahah.
But I have Elephants enough to make you gasp. Because I'm of African origin it is a shape that is pretty much appreciated in crafts. So I have like families of Wooden Elephants. And because people believe it adds luck to a home because it increases the bonds and togetherness of its members.
May your home always be filled with Blessings of Beauty and Love and Unity (elephants or not ;)),
Teresa
