What's It Wednesday #118
While decorating our home, I ran into a slight gender dilemma. There are two males in the house. What was a girl to do?
Then I remembered that animals tend to add a nice male touch. Then I came up with the perfect masculine touch. I will add Peacocks to the decor. I mean they are male animals of course. I couldn't very well put a bunch of peahens around the house. Besides, peacocks run around wild where we live.
It was only right that I represent the men in our home. So I found the cutest bejeweled peacock at Pier 1. While there my son eyed a few peacock pillows for the family room.
My son has become a master at discovering great finds. He eyed this painting at the Home Goods. Not bad for a six year old.
I felt I still needed more males in the house. This metal peacock is prominently placed on the side of a kitchen cabinet. He adds texture and interest to the kitchen.
I didn't want the house overly masculine you know, but when my son spotted these two gentlemen at Kirklands, well I couldn't very well leave them there. Besides they were on clearance.
A matching pillow to the one on the desk chair on the couch and an accent pillow was just what was needed to liven up the family room.
Now my hubby has his favorite place on the family room couch. He really enjoys all the "masculine" touches. Don't you agree that adding male representation in your decor also adds elegance? Well that's my excuse/story and I am sticking to it. ;-)

Hi Paula! I LOVE this post because I love peacocks. Wow, you have been busy shopping! I have to have one of those peacock paintings but we don't have a Home Goods here, maybe I'll look online. Everything looks just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a great rest of your week,

Love your peacocks!!! I have finally crawled out from under the six weeks of preparing our home to put it on the market. I am so happy to be able to visit you ladies. However, we now have to show our home which means keeping it super clean at all times. Then we will be sorting stuff for different shipments to Korea. We will leave the US sometime in July so although one BIG job is complete we now must move on to the next. Thank you for always hosting and for your lovely post and photos. Have a great week ladies. Hugs, Beverly

ReplyDeleteI love your peacocks! I have to admit, I don't like entirely feminine interiors when there's a husband and wife sharing the same house. Everyone's taste should be reflected in the home they live in. The peacocks are a fabulous idea. They go well with elephants, too!

Now, I bet it was a huge effort to redecorate your way-too-gorgeous home to please the men in the house ahahahah
ReplyDeleteBut I do agree it can be a challenge not to enter a rut when decorating and how hard it is to know what they like or want to see there - my men (and my tomboy girl) are of the "whatever, Mom/Teresa!" line.
So glad your your young boy already has eye for decor and pretty things.
Peacocks were a lovely - PERFECT - touch. They add whimsy and charm to an already whimsical, charming and loving Home.
Blessings and Enjoy,
Teres
I love peacocks and have been reluctant to decorate with them. Now I am truly inspired to start adding a few to my decor! I love the bejeweled peacock, along with the painting and pillows the most! Great finds!
