Silver Lining

What's It Wednesday #184

It's been raining non-stop for the past couple of weeks. One rainy afternoon I decided to hit a local Goodwill store. They say that every cloud has a silver lining. Apparently so does the Goodwill store.

I have found silver pieces in the past but never an item this large. This beauty was just $3.00.

Most afternoons a neighbor, friend or family member pays us a visit. So this large bowl was the perfect place to keep a variety of beverages handy.

I keep it well stocked each day. Although it's primarily for our guest the drink choices tend to get consumed by everyone in the family.

Nothing like convenience and beauty. I think this is the most awesome find I have at the Goodwill. I cannot wait to go back to see if there are any more clouds with a silver lining.

Do you have a favorite item you found on a rainy day or at a Goodwill?

xoxoxo

I love rainy days and unexpected Goodwill finds. My favorite Goodwill find of all times is my set of Mary Engelbreit cherry dishes. I bought the complete three piece placesetting for four for $12. That made them a $ a piece. How's that for a bargain?
Thanks for hosting. Happy Weekend ahead.

Okay Paula, you have to know my answer to that question! I have gotten so many great things at my (many) Goodwill stores that I could not pick just one thing! But if I ever got that silver bowl it would definitely be on my list of favorites! You did good, girl! Really, though, you have to keep going back so as not to miss the good stuff. It usually gets snatched right up by those darn professional shoppers (you know, the ones who turn right around and resell the stuff!)
Thanks for hosting! xokathleen

What a clever way to use your pretty Goodwill silver bowl. I used to be able to find a lot of silver pieces at our GW, but those days are long gone. Thanks so much for hosting.

Love your silver bowl. A great find at an amazing price. I too collect silver pieces and just scored 10 trays for a grand total of......wait for it.......$3! I am not kidding. SOmetimes the junking gods smile on me....It was pouring down rain and I came home soaked, but it was worth it... The same day yielded 7 tins of vintage buttons/sewing supplies (also $3), a box full of zinc canning lids and another box of glass canning lid inserts and covers. Great Finds!

Thanks for the feature. I was so enjoying your finds I was completely taken by surprise when I scrolled down and saw the little mummy cans. Thank you so much.

Have a great week.

I can't think of something I've found on a rainy day but it's a fun time to shop! Love the old heavy silver bowls! They feel so luxurious! Hugs!

My first big silver covered casserole pot was a thrill also.
The best thing I ever found was a ornate round mirror with the little bonnet top piece, it was a gold frame and I painted it white and it still hangs over an old dish cabinet in my kitchen

You found a gem! Our Goodwill gets such pathetic junk. It's like someone dug up all the old ugly stuff from the 60's and dropped it off. I like how you used the bowl- makes sense and looks good too! Thanks for hosting!!

What a fabulous find for $3! I'd pay even more! Almost everything I find at thrift stores is something that I want to keep! My most recent favorite is a retro yellow and pink floral canister set.

Paula. Your cloud with a silver Lining was a great one ..'' Such a great find, not often so I dind this good of a deal but when I do it's really so,ethi g to scream about. I did find my most favorite silver plated platter for $1.99 who was the crazy person who priced that is what I was thinking? And thank you crazy person for making my day.

I visit our goodwill often, I just got a new out of the bag, brand new duvet cover for my bed from (real simple) and when I looked it up online at bed bath and beyond it was still on line for $149.00 not even a sale price....they brought out about 15 of them and I paid $10.00 for mine and it was all packaged up, never used, that was my real big score !!
I love when things like this happen, don't you Paula?

See you soon, and it looks great sitting on the counter holding assorted drinks.

Paula, what a great vessel, even without the lid! It looks like it was some kind of hotel serving ware (or some fancy schmancy estate!). Thanks for the party, and I welcome you and your readers for my fall home tour, not affiliated with any blog hop. Have a great weekend!

Girl...that is a find! Love the legs and the handles (LOL I'm half way to buying an item if it has legs), and that patina is wonderful. It's also a fabulous size, love your idea as a drink holder. I recently found an oval, silverplate, covered dish. It was tweaked a bit but I didn't pass it up...that's the first covered one I've found. Enjoyed the post and the party. Have a lovely week ~ Mickie.

Hi Paula,
You really lucked out with your big silver bowl. I love how you used it! I'm a Goodwill junky as well...don't buy much but occasionally find a diamond in the rough that has to come home with me. I'm always looking for old mason jars there to hold craft supplies and small collectibles; have found some nice ones lately for $1.00 or $2.00.
Happy Fall,
Cheryl
