What's It Wednesday #91
Ok so this week's post is not about "boxing gloves" at all. Instead, it's about glove boxes. Not the one in your car, aka, glove compartment (for those of us who remember it being called that), but the one perhaps on a lady's vanity.
I have just chosen a new antique item to focus on and decided to bring you all along. Usually I share my collections during the middle or ending of my collecting.
No not this time. This is a brand new, fresh out of my head, obsession...I mean collection.
As the kids say, "What had happened was..." I was sorting through my mother's, grand-mother's and great-grandmother's gloves a few weeks ago and was wondering what could I store them in. These sorority girls had beautiful gloves for all occasions.
Then it hit me, like most of my compulsive collections, well "duh" I can display them in antique and vintage glove boxes. So of course I started scouring the antique shops locally and online. I wanted the first one to be special and of course Victorian. Y'all know I have a weakness for all things Victorian.
There she was, calling my name. I loved how "Gloves" was embossed on the top of this very delicate box. I couldn't decide which pair of gloves to store in the first of many glove boxes to come.
So now I am looking for glove box number two, three four... What do you think? Wooden, celluloid, ormolu... I just glove them all. In fact, I am smitten.
xoxoxo

Don't you wish we were still so elegant as our past family ladies, what with the wearing of gloves and hats?...I do! I love the box you found for your gloves, it's awesome and you do have the most lovely items that evoke past and romantic times. Beautiful features too.
Thank you for yet, another wonderful party. Big hugs,
FABBY
Oh, Paula! The glove box is just the most beautiful one I think I've ever seen. I have a wooden one that holds a pair of my grandmother's gloves but it's not nearly as nice as this one although it is very old! It was a pleasure to "drool" over your amazing find... lol!!!
Hugs, my friend!
You always find something wonderful to share and weave stories around the new find. Love the idea of glove boxes. Thanks for hosting.

This post brings me back to another era, Patti.. My mother and aunts all had gloves and wore them, I even had several pair of little white gloves. I wish I kept them. Happy to join your party this week. xo
They're not glove compartments anymore? What are they now?
Hi Paula! Beautiful glove box, can't wait to see more of your collection as it grows. I say get it all!!
Happy Wednesday!
Gina

Glove box? What's a glove box? It's always been a glove compartment in my house lol! The gloves are such a great thing to still have, and the boxes, well, genuis!
I'm so happy you found such a gorgeous glove box for your family heirlooms. Love the embossed lettering.
Wow, glove boxes, there was something for everything back in the day. Thanks for hosting!
I used to LOVE wearing gloves, especially the longer ones and real leather too! I never knew there was such a thing as a box for them! I love the one you got. Thanks so much for hosting.
I've never seen a glove box before ... It is so pretty.
Thanks for hosting the party:)

Oh my now this is an obsession worth cultivating. I have never seen such lovely glove boxes. I only have one of those floral chintzy boxes that hold vintage gloves. Who knew? Blissful collecting dear...
Paula, this glove box is gorgeous and so is your collection of gloves!! What a great idea for collecting -- I'm afraid you've given me an idea now, like I really need something else to collect. :-D I really enjoyed this pretty and elegant post!

Love the glove box!! I have a small collection of gloves and now I need a pretty box for them!
Paula I am amazed at the collections you have and how you start them. How lovely to have your mothers and Grandmothers gloves. The box is gorgeous.x
I had a beautiful vintage milk glass box with a lid. I inquired to the National Milk Glass Society as to it's purpose and it was identified as a glove box. It was the first I heard of a special container to keep gloves in(aside from the car of course). I am not sure it made the move to Florida with me but I will look and send you a picture if I locate it.
Wow, I didn't even know there was such a thing as glove boxes. Those are really neat. I can think of a few things to do with one, besides gloves. Thanks for hosting the party.

Oh Paula, what a beautiful glove box. I simply love gloves and as soon as the weather cools I wear my pretty leather or swede gloves. Love all the pretty colors. I have always loved them and when it was in style, many years ago never went out without them. Thanks for the memories.
Have a great week.

Paula, your glove box is gorgeous! I acquired mine (it's white porcelain with hints of gold around the edges) while thrifting at the beach a couple of years ago; I love it and keep some of my jewelry in it.
How beautiful, and so much nicer than the way mine are usually stored (stuffed in coat pockets).
Thank you for featuring my Elegant Wooden Box.
I am always amazed at your prized collections. How wonderful for you to have such beautiful keepsakes. The glove box is simple gorgeous.

That's a great find! I like how you displayed the gloves on the tray with the pearls- very pretty!
I remember my mom having some very thin glove boxes stored in a drawer. She used to wear them for certain events back in the early 60's. You're going to have fun collecting more boxes. :-)
We still call the compartment in our vehicles a glove box. I didn't realize there were actual boxes to store gloves in and now I too will be on the hunt for one for my lace gloves I've worn to teas. Love the one you found, perhaps I'll make one myself, that might be a fun project. :-)
I LOVE LOVE your glove boxes! A wonderful new item to collect! I saw a couple of vintage hat boxes yesterday that I would love to collect but they were not for sale....!
What a gorgeous box such a lovely way to display your collection.
Paula, Your glove box is lovely. I have one that was my grandmother's but it is made of wood with some ornate carving on it... it holds a pair of my mother's gloves... so sweet these little things are... Love the features - as always they are awesome... Thank you for hosting.... Cathy
I love the leather glove boxes to store my grandmother's long gloves. Thank you for hosting.

I am so impressed of all the treasures you have of your pass greats
I have one item that belonged to my great grandmother her wedding ring and I have it only because my grandmother cherished it so much and she gave it to me as she was dying, I promised to cherish it also and I do
So glad you found just the perfect gloves box to start with I am sure you will find more to use for your Grandmothers gloves

Thank you for hosting, Paula. I have a glove box covered in fabric. It is not an expensive one but is quite pretty. The main thing was that it had my mother's name inscribed in it, but that was just a wonderful coincidence..Happy Wednesday..Judy
