What's It Wednesday #126
I've been searching high and low for a set of those old wooden spoons and forks from the seventies. The really BIG ones! “Why on Earth?”, you might ask (as did all the shop owners to whom I inquired!) I had an image of them painted white and distressed and hanging on my kitchen wall. Cool, right? Well, I've still not found them.
But I did run across this ceramic set. The faux wood paint was not working for me, but the fancy detailing was right up my alley.
With a little white spray paint I was in business. Then I wanted to give it some presence with a frame.
I love it in the old white frame,
but you know I'm a sucker for any antique frame in gold too. One day I'll find the pair of my dreams and show you my vision. Until then which do you think, white or gold?

Thank you for hosting! Great features this week! I like the white frame:)
I love the fork and spoon. I didn't realize how much I want a large fork and spoon until now! Going to be on the lookout!!!
Thanks for hosting the party.
The faux salad fork/spoon looks great white and frames. Thank you for hosting, love joining in.
Patti, they both look wonderful! It's hard to pick, but I have to go with the gold. That is a most remarkable frame! I found a set for Hannah and spray painted them, but the spoon got broken somehow...I have a fork in my garage...large, wooden and it has an African head on it - more folk art than ornate. Hers were sprayed shiny deep turquoise. Thanks for hosting!
Love the large fork and spoon! I love both frames. My bestie has a black distressed set in her kitchen; and they look awesome! Thanks so much for hosting!
Love this sweet idea of framing whatever we think of (even if I am a painter : now I don't frame any more my paintings !) During a long time I had a love affair with gold frames, but now my taste goes towards white !
thank you for hosting !
xoxo from PARIS
Patti, thanks for hosting and showing us all the lovely features. Both frames look very pretty, but I am partial to the gold..Happy Tuesday..Judy
I like the contrast of the gold frame. Seems I've seen large forks and spoons as art. I'll give this some thought. These look great though.
Thanks for hosting!
Thanks for the party. I love the one in gold antique frame, the white fork and spoon really stands out on black background..
I love gold frames, but the white and black combo is simply stunning!
How clever to paint the fork and spoon white! I love them and never would have thought of that! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
I love your fork and spoon painted white! And I love them in the white frame :)
Thanks for hosting!
I like both the white and gold frames but I think the gold has a slight edge. :)
I love your idea for the wooden spoons and hope you find some soon!
Thank you SO much for featuring my shrimp dish! What a lovely surprise to see it here this morning.
Hope you're having a great week.
Note to ME - read their introduction 'till the end!
Because as soon as I read what you were looking for, I immediately thought: “Why on Earth?” ahahah
I think it might have turned even better this way. It looks so charming. You make one regret all the things we threw away. With you everything gets a, better, second chance.
Lovely, Patti! Well done, Sweetie!!!
Thanks for hosting the party! Your fork and spoon are fun! I am voting for the white frame :)
Love the idea Patti ! It is difficult for me to choose because I have a mix of gold and white on my walls. I think I showed on my blog a large oval I painted white with two smaller gold frames inside. Then I have a round gold framed mirror and two prints and then more white frames :)) I love both looks. (())
Good luck on your search. You have great ideas! They make those big wooden spoons in the Philippines....Christine
seems like my mom had those huge spoon & fork from Home Interior once ? maybe they were from someplace else I remember selling them in her auction.
I have seen them in flea markets , I'll keep an eye out for you
I like them painted white in white frame
I love what you have created, there is something about flatware art that just fascinates me! Love the black background and white frame~
Thanks for hosting, Patti! I actually have a set of the old 70's fork and spoon that you're talking about. A cousin gave them as a prank Christmas present one year. I've thought about distressing the set and hanging them up in our dining room (right now they're just on a shelf in our basement). They're certainly making a little comeback aren't they?! ~ Jamie
The oversized fork and spoon will look great in your kitchen...what a fun idea!
thanks for hosting us! love the white frame:) how knew the spoon and fork could look so fab in a frame!?
Thanks for hosting! I never imagined a fork and spoon could look so pretty. Good luck searching for that large set
I vote for the white frame and I love this idea! Thanks for a great party each week!
First I want to thank you lovely ladies for including my summer entry as one of your features...what a wonderful surprise! :D Now on to the spoons...you know I'm not sure if it is because it is the summer, but I am actually leaning towards the white frame. My initial thought was gold but like I said...it is the summer. Great idea to frame them, it is so much prettier than to just hang them separately!
I remember that my parents had a big fork and spoon. I don't know what happened to them but after seeing yours I wish my Mom had saved them!
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
My fav is the white one, it looks
so pretty.......they show up so
well. A very cute idea I might add.
Also thanks for hosting as always
and for all the inspiration we get.
I love stopping by each week. Please come and party with us. We would love to have you! http://loulougirls.blogspot.com/
Happy Wednesday! Lou Lou Girls
The fork and spoon look very elegant now! Thanks for hosting the party!
Thanks for hosting my friend! Haven't seen you in a while for Worthwhile Wednesdays, hoping you can make it by http://thecraftiestallie.blogspot.com/2014/07/worthwhile-wednesdays-25.html
I adore your large silverware pair in the yummy frame, how clever!
Thanks so much for the party!!
I absolutely love the idea of framing the fork and spoon after painting it!!
Your fork and spoon are so elegant...love them! Thanks for featuring my potting shed redo....hugs, Penny
I kind of like the gold frame- it's gorgeous! I could swear that Hobby Lobby had a huge fork and spoon. I had them in my hands, but put them back at the last minute. When we moved into our last home, there were outlines of a big fork and spoon on the dining room wall, and a key on the living room wall. Thanks for hosting, Patti!
Love the giant spoon and fork! I like both the white and the gold frame- can't decide which one I like more...Thanks for hosting the party!
I love it the spoon and fork now look so beautiful, nice job!
Thank you for hosting! Love your idea!! Looks great!
Hope you're having a great week.
Your framed spoon and fork set is so cute! Personally I like the white best as it is easier to go with any look and I am not a fan of gold. Now if it was silver...hummm...it might win, lol!
Gigi @ Old World Patina
They look wonderful in the white frame, so shabby chic! Good luck for your search
Thanks so much for hosting! Love your framed fork and spoon. Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
I'm so happy you came for Rednesday. And, you brought you fork and spoon. I like the way the pattern matches the white frame...gives it oomph.
I am late to the party, but thanks for hosting!!
Very nice!!! I really love your artwork!
Thank You Ladies sooo much for Featuring my Mercantile Spice Rack!
My Aunt Joan has the super large wooden fork and spoon on her kitchen wall!!! I think they're from Hawaii. They hung on Marie's kitchen wall also in the Everybody Loves Raymond tv show:)
I had a large metal fork and spoon set for sale in my Etsy shop, but now I'm going to keep them and try to mount them like the photo you posted of a metal set on the framed black board. Pinned to try that:)
Nice features. Thanks for the pasrty. Have a great weekend. Tina
Both frames are beautiful, but the gold I like best!
Oh I remember just the ones you mean Patti! It seems everyone had a set hanging on their kitchen wall. I remember seeing them in my girlfriend's houses and then in my MLS when my husband and I started dating. I love the ones you've framed and I can't decide which frame I like best with them. I don't think you can go wrong with either!
I know exactly what you are looking for. Hope you find them. I have never been a gold lover. Even my wedding ring was (lost it) white gold. So the white frame is my fav! Thanks for sharing them with SYC. They are so sweet.
I love those spoons! I actually havea few old wooden spoons my mom gave me years ago. I need to find them and frame them too
Definitely the white! Thanks for hosting the party!
I'm voting for the white fork and knife and I'm also loving it to make it myself for my kitchen wall! Thank you for hosting for us this week Paula.
Good morning Patti! Now, I'm trying to recall in my mind the spoons you are talking about, from the 70s.....I can't picture them, but basically, they were BIG wooden spoons? I will keep my eye out for them since we have tons of antique stores here in Minneapolis! And I love the idea of taking something and tweaking it just right. Good job on the spoons!
Thank you dear Patti for coming to visit me! You are teaching summer school? GOOD FOR YOU! I go back this year on August 25, so I'm eating up all my summer with much joy, enjoying every sweet but fleeting day!
Be well dear Patti! Anita
I remember some people had those spoon and forks in their kitchens way back when. I bet you could still find some in thrift stores or maybe even on ebay. Hope you find them although I love the ones you got! :-)
Actually after I posted my comment, I quickly checked ebay and they have a ton of various wooden forks and spoons on there!
I LOVE them both! That's a hard decision....one is pretty as the other. Whatever my "decor mood" would be for the week would be chosen! lol! Blessings~~~Roxie
Thanks for the linky! Please check out my blog:
I love the big fork and spoon. Isn't it wonderful what a little paint will do!
Oh Patti, I've got some viisting to do while I'm here, and I may have to, no I will have to come back later and visit more. There is way to much inspiration to end it in a short few looks.
As for that BIG wood set of Fork and Spoon, guess what my mother had them...yes we were one of those people before there creative time with having them on our dinning room wal, they were so light but like 36" inches in length in that maple wood tone finish! why on earth did my Oh my goodness here ever have pieces like that yet so cool when we did. Along with wood mushrooms plaques, and plaster birds and such Yikes!
I here you with wanting them because I so wish I had the set to create from as well, I know that pier 1 Imports had some just as big in a polished metal but they lost something in the translation agreed?
As for the metal ones we screwed them together over the entrance door way of a friends sweet cafe they were the right piece for this use :)
Thank you Patti love !
For taking the time to visit me, your beauty always welcome at my place, and as for your commented words they so encourage the love of salvaging, and add joy to my creative days.
Love yah girl !
Will be back to enjoy more.
The fork and spoon you painted are very nice. I actually like them in the wooden version also. The detail on them is so pretty, and I'm a sucker for old gold frames too, especially antique gold.
Have a nice Sunday.
Thank you for hosting us.
Love the fork and spoon! Pinned. We love having you be a part of our party. I hope to see you tonight at 7 pm. http://loulougirls.blogspot.com/
Happy Monday! Lou Lou Girls
Glad that you finally found a fork and spoon for your kitchen. I like them in the white frame the best.
These really look updated with the new paint and that gorgeous white frame. The gold frame is fantastic also but I think they look better in the white. Thanks for hosting and sharing~~~
