Silver Linings

What's It Wednesday #62
Many of you have gorgeous silver that you’ve inherited from family. So beautiful holding such precious memories. From time to time a piece here or there gets left behind, or borrowed and never returned. Those are the pieces that I collect and try to find new uses for. This pretty footed tray once had a lid I think and probably served a fine casserole. It now holds a welcoming tray of toiletries for guest.

This was a sugar shaker that now holds aromatic bath crystals.

This oil and vinegar set is one of my favorites. The missing bottle made me think of another way to use this very ornate set. It now holds mouthwash, a rinse cup, and a precious Victorian silver handled toothbrush.

A lovely silver candy dish becomes an elegant soap dish,

and this blinged up oil and vinegar now holds shampoo and conditioner.

I adore the detail on this olive tray so it holds pearls, buttons, and other gems that I use in my bottle designs.

How about the double-decker toast and butter rack. Perfect on a desk for letters or cards.

A sweet little butter dish, perfect for holding a sweet treat.

The odd sugar bowl can always make a perfect home for a plant,

and a ladle doles out just the right amount of detergent in the laundry room. I was torn between names for this post. Originally I thought “Kitchen Closed” since the items are all kitchen related.

But since they each give me so much pleasure in their new roles (like this pickle castor that holds cotton balls in the bath), I chose silver linings, because behind every cloud you can always find one. Happy hunting!

What a timely post- I just polished all of my silver pieces on Tuesday and need to incorporate them back into some new spots throughout the house. After seeing where you used your pieces, I'll definitely be placing some of them into my bathrooms! Of course, I don't have those unique pieces that you do- the toast holder was amazing-but my small bowls and trays are going to be seen in a much different light now. Thanks so much for the inspiration! Hugs, Sue

Hi Patti, I just love silver plated antiques and have several pieces myself but your pieces are fantastic.
That double decker toast rack! I've never seen one like that, I love it!! And how you used your cruet for the mouthwash and cup, too cute! I really like how you use them for other things, mine stays in the dining room in the antique stepback cupboard-I know, boring!! Thanks for hosting! Gina

Lovely silver pieces, Patti! I'm on the look out for small silver pieces like your footed tray {except without the feet} to hang on a small wall in our kitchen. I love using these silver pieces in different ways, too. I have a small silver heart shaped dish ~ it reminds me of the Ex Voto hearts that holds some decorative soaps in the guest bath. I also used a toast rack to hold business CD's at one time.

I too have an oil and vinegar silver set that I use to put GLITTER in! I have two in fact, for that very purpose!

Since watching all of Downton Abbey, I have whipped out forgotten silver pieces from my own collection that thankfully, I did not get rid of during a period of putting aside all things "Victorian" or so I thought. But when I bring these things out, they hold such a beauty in my gray/white décor.

Thank you sweet friend for coming to visit with me. I plan to take just a small break from posting. Have a lovely day! Anita
