TV Land

 What's It Wednesday #71

I want to thank Ashley so much for stepping in last week and posting while her mother, Patti, was  out of town and I recuperating from pneumonia. Ashley has been the Ivy & Elephants silent third partner since it's inception.

The other day my husband expressed that his favorite piece of furniture in the house was his television, of course. Then I remembered my favorite piece of furniture.

This beautiful piece of furniture has been passed down for generations. It originally belonged to my great-grandmother. Even as a little girl I loved the wood.

So as it turns out, my favorite piece of furniture is also a television.

As the story goes, my great-grandparents were the first folks in their neighborhood to own a television. The neighbors would gather on the front porch and watch the evening shows with the family.

The Philadelphia Storage Battery Company, also known as Philco, was known for their beautiful radios, televisions and phonographs.

The craftsmanship is amazing and the knobs are even a work of art.
This television console is full of wonderful surprises. The knob at the top is to select the phonograph (PH), radio (BC-broadcast), or the television.

When you pull out the speaker on the left you access the phonograph and as you open the speaker on the right it is an open cabinet. My mother said that that is where her grand-mother kept the records for the phonograph. When I opened it I found an old antenna and a super old radio that I had no idea was there. Oh how I love surprises.

How cool is this old ad? Apparently this model was state of the art for the times.

Hey when was the last time you saw a 45 adapter? Some of y'all are like...what is that?

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your house?

xoxoxo

Home Alone

What's It Wednesday #70
Hey y'all, unfortunately Paula isn't feeling well, and my mom, Patti, is out of town. So I, Ashley, am kinda “home alone”. And even though I miss my mom terribly, don't worry, I've been getting by with some help from my friends.

Now I'm not exactly known for being domestic, but I gotta say we've been doing pretty okay (kinda sorta)
We cooked.

We cleaned.

And took care of our beloved family pet Peeka...

well, most of us did. Nevertheless, I can't wait for her swift return (and for Paula to make a full recovery). But I do appreciate all of you stopping by and supporting
Ivy & Elephants.
Thank You Very Much!
Ashley

Let the party begin!

(I hope I bought enough chips)

Gone to the Dogs

What's It Wednesday #69
I don't know if you're a fan of Charles Faudree but I think he's amazing. His newest design book (Charles Faudree Home) has his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Nicholas, on the cover. He has an extensive collection of dogs in paintings, statues and figures. Now I'm nowhere near his level but i'm sharing my pups too. This is my favorite pair of Staffordshire dogs made popular by Queen Victoria and her love for spaniels.

I think the white ones are just as lovely...

especially in pairs! See the book in the background?

Who's this guy checking himself out?

He's a cute little Royal Dux gloss finish terrier made in England.

This old cast iron bulldog is given a wide berth by my cat. Peeka hasn't decided how she feels about him (lol).

Isn't he the sweetest? I picked up little Jacque because I just love his playful face. He's a German piece by Rosenthal.

These teeny weeny guys are my pound puppies. Have you seen them, little noses pressed against the glass, whispering “take me home”? I can't resist those faces!

My last pup is this old chalkware piece from the fifties. I love his red scarf around his head bandaging his toothache, poor guy. As you can see I've gone to the dogs, I hope you do too!
Hugs,
Patti

C'est Magnifique!

What's It Wednesday #68
This post is inspired by my class. I teach 4th grade and recently the students took the state writing test. I was constantly reminding them to “magnify the moment”. I noticed that I'd magnified a bit myself. This two way mirror of ormolu in the powder room for easy makeup application.

This hand magnifier makes reading the fine print easier. So I was on the hunt to find more.

I remembered this great candle holder that I'd found a couple of years ago, I love the way all the beveled glass reflects and magnifies the light.

This is my favorite piece that I found in my neighborhood thrift store for $20.00! It's a candle lamp that beautifully magnifies and reflects the candlelight. Most days I just leave this gorgeous silk rose in it. The flower seems to grow and bloom! Ahhh, c'est magnifique!

Hugs,
Patti
